The available birth dates listed on Facebook only stretched back to 1905, a full five years after her 1900 date of birth.
Anna Stoehr, the oldest woman in Minnesota, turns 114 on Wednesday. But she is 15 years younger on Facebook.
While attempting to create a Facebook acccount before her milestone birthday, Stoehr ran into trouble when it came time to select her date of birth. The available dates listed on Facebook only stretched back to 1905, a full five years after her 1900 birth date. So Stoehr took a page from the countless underage kids who have joined Facebook over the years and lied about her age. Now according to Facebook, Stoehr is “only” 99.
Stoehr says she has alerted the social network’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, to the glitch, via a letter (written by typewriter, naturally).
Mashable reports that Stoehr’s interest in technology began when a Verizon sales rep, who sold a smartphone to her 85-year-old son, befriended her, and commenced teaching her how to use the Internet.
It is impossible to know for sure whether Stoehr is currently the oldest person on Facebook. Last year, ABC News claimed that California resident, Edythe Kirchmaier, 105-years-old, was Facebook’s oldest registered user. Kirchmaier reportedly set up her page in honor of her 105th birthday.
In 2012, meanwhile, Zuckerberg and Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer, Sheryl Sandberg, honored Florence Detlor, 101-years-old, as Facebook’s oldest user. “Honored to meet Florence Detlor, who at 101 years old is the oldest registered Facebook user. Thank you for visiting us Florence! — with Mark Zuckerberg,” said Sandberg, according to the LA Times.
Since Stoehr has both those ages beat, unless a 115-year-old comes out of the woodwork, the title of eldest Facebook user likely belongs to her. Congratulations, Anna.
