Texas nurse believed to have contracted Ebola

A Texas woman will learn later on today whether or not she will be the second confirmed case of Ebola in the United States.

It appears that a nurse at a Texas hospital has contracted Ebola, but confirmation of that will come later on today according to Fox News.

The nurse who preliminarily tested positive for Ebola is said to have had “extensive contact” with Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person in the United States diagnosed with the disease, and the first person in the United States to die from the disease last week. Duncan arrived in the United States last month after a trip to Liberia, one of the hardest hit areas by the disease.

According to CNN, despite wearing the proper attire, which included a gown, gloves, and a mask, there was still a “breach in protocol” that could have possibly led to the nurse being exposed to and acquiring Ebola through her contact with Duncan.

It is believed that the nurse, who works for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas, has only had contact with one other person since the time it is believed that she contracted the disease. If it is confirmed that she does have Ebola, it will be the first case of Ebola being contracted or transmitted in the States.

Police and health care units in Dallas are now in the process of trying to contain any possible outbreaks. Measures have been taken to secure and decontaminate the nurse’s vehicle, as well as working at the nurse’s apartment complex and getting in contact with residents in the general vicinity of the area.

Health care officials are also working on eradicating the fears of citizens in the United States who are worried about a possible widespread outbreak. Officials are emphasizing that the disease can only be spread through personal contact with a person’s bodily fluids. It is not a disease that can be passed by just being in the presence of someone with it.

Ebola has done widespread damage outside of the United States. In Africa alone, it has already killed thousands of people. Health care officials and citizens alike hope that this latest case is an isolated one that does not spread like it has in other countries.
