A Halloween hayride delivered thrills, chills and a few bumps when a truck towing fun-seekers went off the road, flipped over and spilled people onto the ground, injuring 23 passengers at Harvest Hills Farms on Saturday night, Reuters reports.
“The trailer jackknifed and the jeep went off the road,” Androscoggin County Sheriff Guy Desjardins told the Portland Press Herald. “We’re talking about a very narrow dirt road, but extremely steep.”
“I’ve never witnessed a single incident that resulted in so many injuries,” Desjardins added.
Citing police, The Associated Press reports that all of the ride’s passengers suffered some type of injury.
According to a statement posted on the Harvest Hills Farms website at 10:09 p.m. on Saturday, a Life Flight helicopter landed at the scene of the accident to help transport the more seriously injured riders to the hospital.
Pumpkin Land, the company’s weekend daytime Fall family venue, will also be closed on Sunday as investigators work to reconstruct and investigate the accident.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured,” Harvest Hills Farms wrote.
