Comedian Bill Hader returned to Saturday Night Live as the guest host.
Comedian Bill Hader returned to Saturday Night Live as the guest host. He reprised his role of Stefon on Weekend Update and brought the laughs along with a musical score. The character is flamboyant and the ‘City Correspondent’, who describes interesting things to do around New York City with a new major, Bill De Blasio. Hader also shared an opening monologue and a song with Kristin Wiig, who is also his co-star in Skeleton Twins. The musical guest was Hozier.
Hader first joined SNL in 2005 and was known for impressions of various famous figures including Al Pacino, Julian Assange, and James Carville. He earned an Emmy nomination in 2012, and in 2013, left after being on for eight seasons. In addition to his work on SNL, he has also made a number of films such as Star Trek: Into the Darkness, Her, and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.
Hader delighted the crowd as he portrayed his most notable role, Stefon, suggesting a fun night club in the city. “If you’re looking for a berserk night out in the new New York, I know just the place for you.” Weekend Update is a popular sketch on SNL that covers the events of the week in a humorous fashion. It is currently hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che. Hader does the impression well, but can’t get through it without cracking up, and last night was no exception. Dressed in his trademark colorful t-shirts and pixie haircut, Stefon entertained the crowd.
The comedian’s return was received well. From the musical monologue to pointing out unusual night clubs, Hader was fun to watch. SNL has undergone several changes in the casting in recent years, and having an alumnus on helped gives the sketches a boost. With eccentric characters and weird voices, Hader worked his comedic charm.
