Edward Snowden on home: ‘I don’t miss that question’

Snowden will likely be written about in history books.

One of the biggest newsmakers of 2013 alongside Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke was Edward Snowden. Yes, he did not grind on anyone on MTV but what he did caused him to flee the US. Now he is saying it was all worth it.

Snowden will likely be written about in history books. In July 2013 the then 30-year-old leaked classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA). Soon after he caught the first flight out of the US and has been in a disclosed location in Russia ever since. Although he is gone and living in secrecy now, he has made somewhat public appearances through webcasts.

In his most recent webcast interview with a New Yorker Festival this past Saturday he said he had no regrets and that, “It was about getting the information back to people so they could decide if they cared about it, and on that account … I could not have been more wrong in thinking that people wouldn’t care.”

Things got personal when the moderator asked what he missed most about home. Snowden said, “The question is what don’t I miss, whether it’s my family, whether it’s my home, whether it’s my friends, whether it’s my work at the agency, I was fulfilled and happy. Things as simple as having my old beat-up car, there’s a lot to miss. It’s a great country.”

It is a great country that is split on how they feel about all of this. Some think he is a traitor others view him as a hero that shined a light on government surveillance. And although President Obama believes what happened “will make us stronger” he also thinks Snowden should be held accounted for what he did. So yeah, that guy is never returning to the US unless he wants to face some possible jail time.

While Snowden may remain somewhere in Moscow for the rest of his life, he can live a little happier now that his girlfriend has joined him. The couple reunited this past July.
