Dracula Untold hits theaters this weekend and the film's star tells why it was an important story to tell.
“Dracula Untold” hit theaters this weekend and whether it is a success or not, the film’s star seems to think that the story absolutely needed to be told. Luke Evans, who plays the blood-thirsty vampire in the film, spoke with MTV News about why the movie needed to be made.
“Dracula Untold” mixes real life with fiction. It features Vlad The Impaler as well as Bran Stoker, who lived nearly 400 years later.
“He’s the man that inspired Bran Stoker 400 years later to write the story of Dracula. We start with a human story, about this man who is a father and a leader and a king and a husband — a loving husband — who has a very dark past, who is now fighting for the safety of his family and his people. It’s a very human story, which has never been done before,” Evans said of Vlad’s story.
It’s definitely a new way to tell a monster story — focusing on the real aspects of the legend rather than just the fictional parts — and it may be successful but only time will tell.
The film is the first in a new bid by Universal Studio’s Monster Movie Franchise. Universal Studios reportedly plans to release “Frankenstein” and “The Mummy” as well through this franchise.
Considering monster movies are often huge hits with movie-goers, there is most likely quite a lot of profit to be made from re-creating these films and releasing them in new and exciting ways.
