Billboard Magazine crowns Taylor Swift for a second time

The Popstar beats out Beyonce and Katy Perry who have both received the honor once.

This is one thing Taylor Swift does not want to shake off. She has been crowned Billboard Magazine’s Woman of the year for the second time, making her the first artist ever to have that honor twice.

It is hard to believe Swift has only been around for eight years. It seems like her songs have been a constant reminder of breakups forever now. Alas it was only in 2006 when that blonde hair, blue eyed songbird broke out in the scene. She dominated Country with her ode to Tim McGraw and quickly crossed over like Garth Brooks and Shania Twain. Her southern charm won over the world. Now she is anything but Country and still making out like a bandit.

It is odd that that this is the first time Billboard has ever given this honor to an artist more than once. Did this magazine not exist in the 1990’s when Mariah Carey actually sold records? Nevertheless Swift is well deserved. She has managed to be somewhat of an ever-changing artist. The once Country sweetheart is over and done with all that and has fully crossed over to the Pop world. At least that is what her hit single “Shake It Off” suggests.

That song, along with others can be found on Swift’s upcoming album 1989. So far all of her albums have sold at least four million worldwide, so there is no doubt the next chapter in her life will not do as well.

Back to the Billboard honor, co-president Janice Min said in a statement, “As one of the most influential artists of her generation, Taylor Swift has seen incredible success on the Billboard charts.” Even though she has won it before she continues to be in good company with other artists who have received it like Beyonce, Katy Perry and last years’ winner Pink.

The 24-year-old singer has a busy end of the year so far. She will drop 1989 on October 27 and then get this Billboard honor in December at the magazine’s annual Women in Music event in New York.
