The dispute may have been over a pre-nuptial agreement.
According to a CNN report, it wasn’t happily ever after for Dr. George Scott Samson and nurse Kelly Ecker. The couple tied the knot Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Indiana. By the end of the night, both were dead.
The AP reports that Samson is believed to have shot and killed Ecker before turning the gun on himself.
“The investigation has revealed that there was a verbal argument between the couple toward the end of the reception, which carried over to the after-party at the couple’s home,” Vigo County Chief Deputy Sheriff Clark Cottom wrote in an email to The AP.
According to the Daily Mail, the dispute may have been over a pre-nuptial agreement. Samson is said to have told his wife at their reception that she would “never get her hands on his money.”
An after party at Samson’s house is allegedly where the disagreement took a turn for the worst, with guests reportedly deciding to leave early Sunday morning before the situation spun out of control.
Audio of 911 calls made by Ecker reveals what happened next. In the first of two 911 calls, Ecker tells a dispatcher that Samson is “beating the sh*t out of her.” Ecker called a second time after the first call cut out. During the second call, gunshots are audible in the background.
When deputies arrived at Samson’s house, they found Ecker’s body. After removing her 1o-year-old son and Samson’s parents from the house, authorities determined that the doctor had shot himself in his basement.
