Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Teresa and Joe were sentenced to jail for fraud on Thursday.
There’s a deeper meaning to “watch what happens” on Bravo now. Teresa Giudice, star of the Real Housewives of New Jersey, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for fraud last Thursday and according to ABC News gave her first interview to Bravo head honcho Andy Cohen in an episode that aired Monday night.
Both Teresa and her husband Joe have been battling wire and bankruptcy fraud charges for the past year. They plead guilty in March; Joe was sentenced to 41 months in jail and Teresa to 15 months. According to TMZ, U.S. District Court Judge Esther Salas said during the sentencing that, “I need to send a message. In the eyes of the law it doesn’t matter who you are. There are consequences to pay.” She did arrange for the sentences to be staggered so that the Giudices’ four young daughters would be able to live with 1 parent instead of relatives. Teresa will start her jail sentence on January 5.
During the interview, Teresa admitted, “I was shocked,” with her sentence. She also reported that only their oldest daughter, 13-year-old Gia, knew about the sentencing at the time of the interview. “She said, ‘it’s going to be okay.’ She was being strong for me, I could tell.” Teresa also said she was the “hands-on” parent and that Gia had promised to help her father with her three younger sisters.
The Giudices so far have only spoken to Bravo and it’s likely the saga will play out on the upcoming season of RHONJ.
