‘Dancing With The Stars’ recap: Fresh Prince’s Carlton Ribeiro kills it with his 90’s dance moves

Ribeiro finally brought his famous Carlton dance to the show, earning his highest marks of the season.

90’s fans finally got what they wanted. Alfonso Ribeiro, star of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and contestant on this season of Dancing with the Stars, made his fans very happy by incorporating his famous “Carlton” dance into his routine on Monday night.

Ribeiro starred as Will Smith’s cousin Carlton on The Fresh Prince from 1990-1996 and has mentioned his mixed feelings about the role’s legacy throughout his time on DWTS. “I was pigeon-holed as an actor because of that character,” he said during an interview on the show. Earlier on the season, he had stated his reserves about revisiting his 1993 dancing moment in this new platform, admitting to ABC News, “To be honest, I would never want to do it.”

However, Ribeiro acknowledged, “I know the fans want it and so….we are giving it to the fans.” He promised, “we are going to plan for it when we think it works.” Last week he tweeted that the time had come, writing: “It’s official…doing the Carlton Dance to Tom Jones It’s Not Unusual this week.”

During the show, Ribeiro said that, “I love how [the Carlton Dance] makes people feel,” and the routine was unsurprisingly a big hit. Judge Julianne Hough said, “we all wanted it, we all loved it,” and judge Carrie-Ann Inaba exclaimed, “All I can say is, finally!” With East Coast viewers sending in votes as “the fourth judge,” Ribeiro earned the night’s only perfect score of 40 points for his nostalgic efforts.

Go Carlton go!
