Host Sarah Silverman's comedic chops were on full display, but it's her tribute to the late Joan Rivers that's kept everyone talking.
Sarah Silverman shined hr first time hosting SNL and a lot of that had to do with her tribute to the late Joan Rivers.
It has not been that long since Rivers passed away so some might have thought it was a little too soon for the show to do anything about the comedienne but they did. Silverman played her arriving to heaven and while she stumbled over some of the lines as she tried her hardest to keep the Rivers’ rasp in her voice, it still turned out okay.
Other than that the Emmy winning host opened strong with a monologue that reminded everyone that while this was her first time hosting it was not her first time at SNL. She was a featured cast member back when that was often the plant in the audience. So it made perfect since when she flawlessly pulled off a very unplanned plant section of her own monologue.
The big skits of the night all centered on the biggest news story happening right now – Ebola. Silverman poked fun of the disease by using it instead of cancer in a piece based on Fault in Our Stars. Fans got a kick out of the young man’s “just the tip” line. Then while last week’s Weekend Update was a little rusty as the two male hosts were just getting used to one another, this time around the kinks were worked out. Colin Jost and Michael Che were on top of the laughs with their back to back Ebola jokes.
Silverman did great with musical guests Maroon 5 but there are huge expectations for next week as one of their own returns to host. If Bill Hader does not do Stefon – there might be a riot.
