Comedienne Sarah Silverman paid tribute to the late Joan Rivers on Saturday Night Live.

Comedienne Sarah Silverman paid tribute to the late Joan Rivers on Saturday Night Live. The two were longtime friends. The sketch featured Silverman, 43, dressed as the comedienne in a blonde wig and maroon jacket in heaven surrounded by other famous figures whom she makes jokes at. Silverman was the host, and was once a cast member on SNL 20 years ago. Maroon 5 was the musical act that night.

Rivers was a legendary comedienne and a trailblazer. With her bold, brassy humor, and flair for fashion, she was a pioneer in the field of comedy. She inspired women to get into the business. In addition to her stand-up, she was also a host on Fashion Police, a show that critiqued celebrity attire. Rivers loved her work and continued up until her death. She passed away in early September at age 81 due to complications from throat surgery. The comedienne was greatly missed by others in the comedy business, and her funeral was a Hollywood affair as she would have wanted it.

The sketch was a fitting tribute as Silverman greatly admired Rivers. It was the first time she had been on the show in two decades. She was on SNL for a year, appearing in sketches and as a writer, although none of what she wrote made it into the show. She was fired, but since then, Silverman has become a successful comedienne. In her stand-up routines, she is known for being bold and controversial, like Rivers. Both are Jewish, and they have poked fun at their heritage. Her opening monologue was considered a hit, referencing her time on the show as a 23-year-old. No doubt Rivers would be proud of Silverman paying homage to her. With a love of making people laugh, the comedienne’s legacy lives on.
