According to a report from The Associated Press, an Aermomexico plane, headed to Mexico City with 129 passengers on board, blew several tires as it prepared to take off on Saturday.
No injuries were immediately reported, KTLA reports.
The incident, which took place at Los Angeles International Airport, closed a main runway at the busy airport, according to CBSLA.com.
Amazingly, everyone remained calm despite the nerve-rattling incident.
“No one was screaming,” Sara Seligman, a passenger on the flight, told The AP. “Once we stopped no one talked to us for five minutes, but it felt like an hour.”
Although the FAA initially believed that the left landing gear had collapsed, The AP reports that a follow-up investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that two blown tires on the left side of the aircraft forced the pilot to take immediate action.
All 135 passengers and crew members were eventually escorted off the plane. Passengers were booked on other flights to Mexico City.
