Lena Dunham said she will not marry until her gay sister can marry as well.
Actress Lena Dunham is taking a stand against inequality. The “girls” star mad sit clear that she will not marry her boyfriend, Jack Antonoff until her gay sister can marry her partner legally. Dunham is another celebrity in a long line of them who is fighting for equality and marriage rights for gays and lesbians.
Prior to Dunham, one of the most high-profile couples to take a stand against and on gay marriage was Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who said they would not marry until it was legal for everyone to marry. They seem to have changed their tune, however, because they married over the summer and it was still not legal for gays and lesbians to be married in many places within the United States.
Dunham said that she is not against marriage, according to the Mirror via DNA India, but she feels that it is not fair to do something that her sister cannot do.
It’s sweet that Dunham is fighting for the rights of her sister. She’s using her high-profile status to raise awareness for a cause that she believes in, which is something everyone should do. Though she may change her mind and get married eventually, especially if the legislation for gay marriage doesn’t get approved any time soon, at least she has stood up and made her thoughts heard.
There are other celebrities who are on the same wavelength as Dunham but they still get married. They may show their support another way but for Dunham it seems as though it is a personal issue since her sister cannot legally marry.
