The issue, it seems, is that iPhone 6 users are getting their hair stuck "in the seam between the glass screen and the aluminum back" of the device.
The cycle has become a familiar one for new iPhones: first, Apple announces the new device(s) and social media explodes with excited praise about new features and design elements; second, pre-orders sell out and buyers line up around the block of their neighborhood mobile phone stores to get their hands on the new iPhone models; third, those users start to complain about their brand new devices, pointing out minor frustrations or serious design flaws.
That exact cycle has transpired for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices, which released just two weeks ago, and which already have drawn the ire of many outspoken individuals on social media. The first issue was ascribed with the hashtag #bendgate, and involved iPhone 6 Plus phones that would begin to bend and flex if kept in a pocket for too long. Now, according to a report from the Business Insider, there’s a new design flaw on the block, and it is being promoted with the hashtag #hairgate.
The issue, it seems, is that iPhone 6 users are getting their hair stuck “in the seam between the glass screen and the aluminum back” of the device. As a result, some people are inadvertently ripping out some of their hair when putting their phones away after taking a call.
As some people have noted, the #hairgate problem is easily solved by simply using a case with the iPhone 6. However, for those who prefer to skip the bulky OtterBox-like cases in favor of keeping their phones sleek, lightweight, and unprotected, there is currently no solution. Those users may just have to learn to live with consistently losing a bit of the hair around their phone ear!
Apple has not yet responded to #hairgate.
