Reuters notes that the oil company is preventing some of its workers from journeying to West African countries impacted by the deadly disease.
According to a report from Reuters, the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa has disrupted some of the company’s oil and gas activities.
“We had some drilling plans for some blocks offshore West Africa in Liberia,” CEO Rex Tillerson said at a news conference. “We are having to look at when it would be prudent to resume operations there because you do have to have shore-based support.”
Exxon spokesman Patrick McGinn told USA Today in an email that the outbreak “will delay the planned late 2014 start of Exxon’s first exploration well offshore Liberia.” USA Today adds that the company’s operations in Nigeria are not expected to be impacted.
Reuters notes that the oil company is forbidding some of its workers from journeying to West African countries impacted by the deadly disease.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the 2014 Ebola epidemic is the largest in world history, impacting multiple countries in West Africa. Although the likelihood of an Ebola outbreak in the U.S. is extremely low, the CDC and its partners are taking precautions to prevent this from happening.
