After 3rd season, TNT cancels ‘Dallas’

No clear reason for the cancellation was given, but the network showed appreciation for the show's cast and production.

The bombshells keep coming for the TNT’s Dallas.

Just one week after the show’s surprise third-season finale, which featured a shocking and sad ending for fans of the 80’s remake, the network has decided not to renew the series for a fourth season.

No clear reason for the cancellation was given, according to Deadline Hollywood.

“We are extremely proud of the series, which defied expectations by standing as a worthy continuation of the Ewing saga,” a TNT spokesperson told Deadline Hollywood. “We want to thank everyone involved with the show, from the extraordinary cast to the impeccable production team, led by the show’s creative forces, Cynthia Cidre and Mike Robin. We especially want to thank the people of Dallas for their warm and generous hospitality during the production of the series.”

The show’s 2012 premiere secured a hefty seven million viewers, a drastic comparison to the season three finale, which was seen by only 1.7 million viewers.

Original cast member and star of the remake Patrick Duffy was also wondering about the show’s future four days ago.

“Will this be a ‘renewal’ week? Keeping our fingers crossed! Stay with us friends!,” he tweeted.

The head of the local Dallas Film Commission told The Dallas Morning News that the city was “extremely disappointed” when news broke that the show would not be returning to its namesake town.

“The city enjoyed having them, and they enjoyed being here,” said Janis Burklund. “And the show is still being seen on Netflix and in foreign countries. The producers and actors have been extremely gracious to work with.”
