His death is likely to be ruled an accidental death.
According to a report from USA Today, 20-year-old Kendall Wernet died Monday after falling off a cruise-ship radar deck. According to FoxNews.com, the radar dish was located on a restricted platform.
Wernet, a Clemson University student, was reportedly on an awards cruise for Student Painters. WYFF Greenville notes that the 20 year old was treated by the ship’s medical staff before being transported to a trauma center with serious head injuries.
“They had seen a group up there the night before and thought it would be a good idea to go there at about 5 a.m. to see the sun rise over Miami,” Steve Acorn, the owner of Student Painters, told USA Today. “They were up there talking and the radar system went on […] It caught Kendall and threw him down.”
FOX Carolina reports that Miami-Dade police’s homicide unit is looking into Wernet’s death, but authorities believe that it’s likely to be ruled an accidental death.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones at this difficult times,” Carnival Cruise lines said Monday in a statement about the accident.
