"The investigation will determine if the officer's actions were legal," the Tallahassee police department said.

The Tallahassee Democrat reports that a Tallahassee police officer has been placed on administrative leave after tasing a 62-year-old woman Tuesday. Viola Young, who was tased in the back, was arrested for resisting an officer without violence.

“Based on the video, I have enough concerns to call for an internal investigation,” Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo said at a news conference Wednesday, according to The Associated Press. “We will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. We want to be transparent with the community by sharing what we can at this point, including the video.”

“The investigation will determine if the officer’s actions were legal,” DeLeo added. “And if those actions were consistent with the expectations I have set for our officers in terms of how we respect and treat our citizens.”

In an update to their original story, The Tallahassee Democrat notes that Tallahassee defense attorney Chuck Hobbs has asked State Attorney Willie Meggs to file charges against the officer, arguing that the tasing of Young was “unjustified.”

“I am asking you to strongly consider filing charges directly if you and your top investigators conclude that this incident was unjustified and there is probable cause and reasonable likelihood of a successful prosecution under one or more Florida laws,” Hobbs said in a letter to Meggs obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat.
