Saturday Night Live debuts 40th year season with premiere highlights and controversial performance.
Although Saturday Nigh Live (SNL) has predominantly had a cult following and legendary status in Hollywood, it has recently been expressed by fans and critics alike a critical concern about the direction of the late night show in its 40th season hailing the 40th season opener bizarre and subpar for such an important season for the show.
The opening act consisted of Chris Pratt, a hilarious up and coming actor and star of the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie, and Chris Pratt’s abs as a supporting role. The show seemed to lack the festive live experience we have come to expect and love from a premiere tied to such an important season. It seems rather the late night show is on a new mission to prove that a new era has been born of Studio 8H with a markedly different tone.
Popwatch declared the show as being in a safeguarded position, looking for easy laughs and a wide audience appealing demographic. There was only one notable camea and it came from Pratt’s wife, Anna Faris instead of the expected Amy Poehler, Pratt’s Parks and Recreation costar.
IN reality there was little about the show that was familiar to the SNL audience. It seemed intent on showcasing their new generation, with their brand new weekend updated lineup and their new writer Leslie Jones. It seemed SNL wanted to give the new comedians and writer a chance to showcase their work – the question remains if it was a good idea to do it on the premiere. The best sketch of the evening was largely accredited to “Marvel Trailer” a parody of Pratt’s latest Marvel movie.
