Randy Jackson’s wife files for divorce

'Randy is bummed out. It's not the way he wanted it to happen or end.'

Oh, Dawg. Sorry about the divorce news.

American Idol Judge Randy Jackson is going through some big life changes. In 2013 he left American Idol after judging alongside Simon Cowel for 12 seasons. This year his wife is leaving him after 18 years of marriage.

According to the entertainment site TMZ, Erika Jackson filed the divorce papers, citing “irreconcilable differences”. She requested full physical custody and joint legal custody of the couple’s minor one-year-old son and 17-year-old son Jordan.

They also have an adult daughter named Zoe, who was not listed in the court documents.

In addition, Erika wants Randy to foot all attorney’s fees, as well as pay her spousal support.

This is marriage number two for the 58-year-old musician and American Idol personality. He has another daughter from his previous marriage.

People Magazine quoted an insider to the situation as saying that the big D was already on the table for the couple. It was Erika, though, who made it to the courthouse first.

“Randy and Erika had a plan (of how they would file) but at the end of the day she decided to file (on Friday),” said the insider. “Randy is bummed out. It’s not the way he wanted it to happen or end.”

The couple ran the Randy and Erika Family Foundation together, a philanthropic enterprise that encourages dance and physical activity. No word on whether or not the foundation will continue after the divorce.

Jackson is a fan of all forms of reality-based competition entertainment, including dance. He produced the short lived America’s Best Dance Group, a reality show and dance group competition that was cancelled in 2010.
