Police investigate mysterious death of family of five in Utah home

"There were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play," a police spokesman told The AP.

Citing police, The Associated Press reports that a family of five (two adults and three children) was discovered dead in a Utah home on Saturday.

According to Fox 13 News, the bodies were found by a relative who had not heard from them for some time.

“There were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play,” Springville police spokesman Lt. Dave Caron told The AP in a telephone interview on Sunday. “We didn’t see that when we first got there and we still don’t.”

Fox 13 News adds that police are working to determine what led to the death of all five family members. Although the cause of death has yet to be determined, the news channel notes that authorities do not believe that the public is in any danger.

“We looked into the possibility it may have been carbon monoxide, but we just don’t know at this point,” Caron said, according to Fox 13 News.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of 430 deaths per year due to unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning occurred in the U.S. between 1999-2010.
