Microsoft to give sneak peat at what’s next for Windows

Microsoft is set to give a sneak peak at the next version of Windows at an event on Tuesday, however many are skeptical at the direction that Microsoft will go.

Microsoft is set to give a first look at its upcoming Windows 9 operating system at an event in San Francisco on Tuesday. Unfortunately, beyond simply announcing that there is an event, the tech giant has given no other details.

While Microsoft has not officially given details about Windows 9, codenamed Threshold, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has talked about his vision for the operating system in the past. In various interviews and at events, Nadella has mentioned that he envisions a Windows that works, or with features that work, across computers, tablets, and smartphones.

According to some sources, on of Microsoft’s goals for the next iteration of Windows is to make updating the operating system as simple as updated software on a smartphone.

“With this next version I believe they are aiming for what I would call in a tongue-in-cheek way ‘the last Windows upgrade,'” said Frank Gillett, an analyst at Forrester.

In fact, the next version of Windows may not even be called Windows 9. Some reports suggest that going forward the operating system will simply be called “Windows.”

The company has a lot to prove with its next operating system. Windows 8 was released in 2012 and many were not happy with it. The company fixed many problems that people had with Windows 8.1, however many others still thought the company had taken a wrong turn.

Despite this, Microsoft seems to be thriving since Nadella became the CEO of the company in February. Stock of the company has risen a whopping 25 percent so far this year alone. Only time will tell if customers are equally as impressed with the company’s new direction and if Windows 9 turns out to be a hit.
