People who contributed to his dream at the so-called "platinum potato" level received a few gifts in return.
Zack Brown, a potato salad virgin, had one dream and one dream only when he launched a Kickstarter in July: He wanted to raise $10 so he could make potato salad for the first time.
“I really hope we hit $3,000,” Brown told MTV News after he soared past his initial Kickstarter goal. “I want to rent a party hall and invite the whole internet to eat potato salad and bask in this thing we’ve managed to create together.”
By the end of his $10 campaign, the Internet had raised more than $55,000 for his dream.
“Basically I’m just making potato salad,” read the description of his project. “I haven’t decided what kind yet.”
People who contributed to his dream at the so-called “platinum potato” level received a few gifts in return: A recipe book, a shirt, a hat, some of the potato salad, a photo of Brown with the potato salad, a “thank you” on his website and the promise that their name would be read during the making of the potato salad.
At some point, however, Brown realized that he needed to do more than just make a potato salad. He decided to throw an insane potato party on Saturday with the money he raised via Kickstarter and it was all for charity.
According to an account of the party from Mashable, the party included bands, potato sack races and 3,000 pounds of potatoes.
