The company's chief operating officer, also a reserve sheriff's deputy, stopped the attacker.
According to a report from FoxNews.com, the FBI is investigating a beheading at an Oklahoma food processing plant after co-workers said that 30-year-old Alton Nolen attempted to covert them to Islam after recently converting to Islam himself.
Nolen is suspected of beheading a woman with a knife and seriously injuring another employee before being shot by the company’s chief operating officer, Mark Vaughn.
“Yes, [54-year-old Colleen Hufford] was beheaded,’’ Moore Police Sergeant Jeremy Lewis told The Associated Press on Friday.
After severing Hufford’s head, Nolen went after 43-year-old Traci Johnson with a 10-inch work knife.
Lewis praised Vaughn’s successful effort to stop the attacker before Johnson also fell victim to Nolen’s murderous rage.
“This was not going to stop if he didn’t stop it. It could have gotten a lot worse,’’ Lewis said, noting that Vaughn is a reserve sheriff’s deputy. ‘‘The threat had already stopped once we arrived.’’
Nolen has several prior convictions, including felony drug offenses and assault and battery on a police officer.
