Jordin Sparks has decided to take the high road in publicly announcing her split from fiancé Jason DeRulo.

MTV.com reports that Sparks, 24, made the announce via Twitter.

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened,” she tweeted.

The American Idol winner began dating Derulo three years ago.

Reports of the breakup started circulating on September 25, but the rumors were buried in the bombshell news that Whiz Khalifa and Amber Rose are divorcing. On September 26, the Wiggle singer dished out more details about his breakup with Sparks to ABC, slamming swirling rumors of infidelity.

“Though I think it is a private matter and intended to keep my break-up (with) Jordin personal, due to bogus and irresponsible lies being reported by insensitive media outlets it became necessary for me to comment,” Derulo said.

“I spent three great years with Jordin, and she is one of the most amazing people that I have ever met. But as in all relationships there are ups and downs and at this time we have decided to amicably part.”

That statement came on the heels of an earlier statement he made on a Minneapolis radio station, saying that “everything is cool” and that their breakup was not “a bad situation.”

Just a few weeks ago, Derulo, 25, was singing a different tune. He told Nightline that he wrote the song Marry Me to assure his girlfriend that a proposal was coming.

Sparks had last publicly posted about their relationship on September 8, with a photo of the two of them after a workout.

“You know what? @jasonderulo is the best workout buddy! Thanks for encouraging me & pushing me to go harder!! BOOM!” she wrote.
