Ford Mustang fakes noise for engine sound

It has been revealed that Ford's new 2015 Mustang amplifies engine noises through the cars speaker system in an attempt to recreate that classic Mustang sound.

The Ford Mustang has long been hailed as one of the great American cars, however it was recently revealed that the 2015 model of the car boosts the sound of the engine through the cars speakers.

Due to better fuel economy and smaller engines, newer car models simply cannot boast the full sound that the classic Ford Mustangs once did. The V8 engines used in the Mustang’s in the ’70s have been replaced with turbocharged four-cylinder engines instead.

While the newer engines might be able to compare to older V8 engines in terms of power, the sound of a four-cylinder engine is no match for that of a V8, no matter how turbocharged that engine might be. Because of this, Ford has had to come up with another way to create the sound and newer Ford Mustangs have what’s called Active Noise Control.

According to Dave Perciak, who is the chief engineer for the Ford Mustang, there is no fake sounds that are being created by the system. Instead, the system brings in sound directly from the cars engine and plays it through the speakers after it’s “processed.” Essentially, the system amplifies sounds that the car is already making.

As of right now, the Mustang EcoBoost is the only car with Active Noise Control System, but its safe to say that these kinds of solutions will likely appear in other vehicles going forward. It’s also likely that other carmakers will be watching the Mustang EcoBoost pretty closely to see what kind of response the car gets. Despite this, many muscle-car enthusiasts probably won’t be very impressed with the new system.
