Ford announces new jobs as August sales show significant gains worldwide.
Ford Motor Company announced that it will be adding 1,200 jobs to its Missouri Plant, making it the biggest factory for the automaker. The new workers will be working the second shift, which will start in November, to manufacture Transit vans to meet the increasing demand among worldwide consumers.
The 2015 Transit Van is a replacement for the company’s E-series van, which has been the best-selling commercial van in the US for almost 34 years. The new Transit comes in with a standard 3.7-liter V6 engine, but it gives 19% better mileage when compared to its predecessor. The vehicle is also sold in 118 countries across six continents, and ranks as the top-selling commercial van in the UK for the last 49 years.
The additional employment will boost the plant’s total workforce up to 6,000 workers; this includes the addition of 2,800 workers during 2012 and 2013 to increase the production of F-150s. The plant is located in the suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri and manufactures F-150 trucks in three production shifts.
This announcement follows the Michigan-based automaker posting strong numbers for US auto sales in August. For the European region where major automakers are struggling, Ford posted a 14.4% increase in August sales.
Along with the Transit, the company plans to launch the 2015 Ford Mustang next month, which will further provide a boost to the company’s top line. The expansion is part of the company’s $1.1 billion investment plan announced in 2011. The current expansion will enable the plant to deliver almost 500,000 vehicles till year end, ahead of the 465,000 production capacity of the company’s plant in Valencia, Spain.
