Reports claim Oscar-winner and his fiancée will get married Monday in Venice.
George Clooney and international-law attorney Amal Alamuddin’s engagement was confirmed by Alamuddin’s law firm in late April, and E! News discovered soon after that the Oscar-winner proposed with a 7-carat diamond ring worth an estimated $750,000. Five moths later, reports are claiming the couple plans on getting married on Monday in Venice at Ca’ Farsetti, a Renaissance-era palazzo which contains the city’s town hall.
People magazine reported Thursday that Alamuddin was spotted flying into Milan from London with her mother. According to U.K. newspaper The Daily Telegraph, several A-list celebrities like Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford, and Lana Del Rey will soon be flying into Italy as well, and will stay at the Hotel Cipriani on the island of Giudecca. The newspaper states the actual wedding will be held at Venice’s only seven-star hotel, the Aman Resort.
These claims have been supported by statements from the Venice City Council, which recently announced it will close streets and walkways around the Ca’ Farsetti between noon and 2 p.m. Monday, for a “celebrity event” there that could draw large crowds. A Council official told the Telegraph that the celebrity guests will arrive in motor launches escorted by police boats, and that Walter Veltroni, former mayor of Rome and one of Clooney’s close friends, will serve as the wedding’s officiant.
Alamuddin will reportedly wear an Alexander McQueen gown designed by Sarah Burton, the designer of Kate Middleton’s infamous wedding dress. Giorgio Armani announced after his Emporio Armani show at Milan Fashion Week last week that Clooney “has chosen and been fitted for an Armani suit for his wedding.”
