Andre 3000 wants actor Leonardo DiCaprio to play him in an Outkast movie

The rapper apparently has a plan for a potential comedic take on his musical supergroup.

Talk about stunt casting. In a recent panel interview, rapper Andre Benjamin, better known as Andre 3000, joked that he’d choose Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio to play him in any possible biopic about his famous music group Outkast.

The question came up in a panel at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles on Sunday night after a preview of Benjamin’s new film, Jimi: All is By My Side. The film is a biopic of musician Jimi Hendrix, directed by 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley, covering a year of his life in the 1960s as he begins to break out with his career. Benjamin is already being praised for his convincing transformation into Hendrix.

At the panel, Benjamin was asked if there was any possibility for an Outkast biopic. He replied, “It would be great to make an Outkast movie right now, but instead of really serious, make it a full comedy—like Kevin Hart would play [my partner] Big Boi.” He then added that to play himself, “we should cast somebody stupid—like Leonardo [DiCaprio].”

No such film is currently in the works, but Benjamin admitted he already knew what he would want it to focus on. “Probably the importance of balance within the group,” he said. “One of the biggest things that kills me is when people try to put Big Boi down.” He admitted he felt his partner was a better rapper than he was.

Jimi: All is By My Side comes out on Friday.
