HBO confirmed Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn were on board on Tuesday.
HBO has confirmed that it has at least partially cast the upcoming second season of its acclaimed show True Detective. According to CNN, Season 2 will be helmed by Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.
Farrell had actually told the Sunday World about his casting over the weekend. He did not mention which character he would be playing but stated that, “I know it will be about eight episodes and take around four to five months to shoot.” Vaughn’s casting had only been rumored until Tuesday’s announcement.
HBO confirmed that this season will be a standalone story with no connection to Season 1, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The new season will be penned by series creator Nic Pizzolatto, and HBO’s press release gives a very brief summary of the plot, stating that “three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”
Farrell will play “a compromised detective” Ray Velcoro and Vaughn will play the “career criminal Frank Semyon.”
Deadline reports Taylor Kitsch is the lead contender for the other male lead but that no fewer than 8 actresses are being considered for the female lead, including Rosario Dawson and Jessica Biel. HBO has yet to comment on that aspect of casting.
Filming is expected to begin this fall in California.
