Iconic actress Polly Bergen has died at the age of 84.

Iconic actress and singer Polly Bergen has passed away at 84. Bergen is said to have died at her home in Southbury, Connecticut, where she was surrounded by her family and friends as she passed.

Bergen smoked for more than 50 years and as a result she had been battling the horrible lung disease known as emphysema since the 1990’s. She also suffered from other ailments which were not disclosed.

The most recent role for Bergen was playing the mother of Felicity Huffman’s character on the hit ABC series “Desperate Housewives”. She also had a role in the “Soprano’s” but her more notable roles were when she was younger. In her younger days, Bergen played the leading role in films such as “Cape Fear” and “Kisses For My President”. She also starred in a variety show and was a much loved game show panelist back when game shows were all the rage.

She was also a singer who had a ” warm and sultry voice” according to an Australian news site. While today’s generation may not know of Bergen or her music in a time of Justin Bieber and One Direction, it is apparent that she was quite the entertainer back in her day.

Though it’s a sad day when anyone dies, whether it’s a celebrity or not, Bergen was lucky to have lived a full life filled with a lot of success and joy.  Her memory will live on through her films and songs and her family will be able to have some comfort in knowing that her work was appreciated.
