Amazing: Nurse agrees to take in dying mother’s 8-year-old son

"He is the only thing I got and I have to leave him," the boy's mom said in an interview with WHTM.

This is one story that’s guaranteed to warm your heart: According to a report from the New York Daily News, a 45-year-old single mom with terminal cancer won’t have to worry about who will take care of her eight-year-old son, because an oncology nurse at a Pennsylvania hospital where she’s been receiving treatment has agreed to take him in.

“He is the only thing I got and I have to leave him,” Somers told WHTM. “It is really hard and I feel bad that I am doing that to him and he says, ‘Mommy it is not your fault.'”

The Daily News reports that Somers asked nurse Tricia Seaman if she would take care of her son shortly before being discharged from the hospital. Amazingly, Seaman, who has four children of her own, had already been talking with her husband about adopting another child.

According to ABC News, Seaman began the process of welcoming Somers’ son into her family by visiting with Tricia and Wesley, followed by visits from the Somers family to the Seaman’s home. Eventually, as Tricia’s health began to deteriorate, Seaman decided to invite both Wesley and his mom into her home.
