‘Magic Mike XXL’ won’t include Matthew McConaughey

In a Twitter Q&A in July 2012, Tatum confirmed work on a sequel. The actor responded: "Yes, yes and yes! We're working on the concept now. We want to flip the script and make it bigger.

Settle down, Matthew McConaughey fans. Even though the Academy Award winning actor with the Texas drawl won’t be starring in Magic Mike XXL, there’s still plenty of eye candy left in the franchise.

Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer are all in for the sequel to Magic Mike, which should be out  in July 2015. This one will be directed by Gregory Jacobs, and even though McConaughey won’t be returning, there are some big, star-studded additions to the film.

The Rum Diaries actress Amber Heard, has agreed to appear in Magic Mike XXL, according to CBS News. She’ll be playing alongside Andy McDowell, who has also agreed to appear in the film.

Billed as the Road Trip Flick of 2015, the dramatic comedy centers around the strippers on their way to a convention in Tampa.  In an interview with IndieWire, Jacobs said this film is going to be different but definitely memorable in its own way.

“What am I allowed to say?” the Director said. “It’s road trip movie, and put it this way, it’s different enough that once you see it you’ll understand why we made a sequel. No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice.”

Tatum originally confirmed working on the sequel in a Twitter interview with Glamour

“Yes, yes and yes!” he said during the Twitter Q&A. “We’re working on the concept now. We want to flip the script and make it bigger.”

The Magic Mike franchise is loosely based on Tatum’s experience as a male stripper in Tampa, Florida when he was 18.
