Travolta finally comments on the years-old allegation that he is gay in Daily Beast interview.
John Travolta’s career has died down over the past few years, but the 60-year-old actor has remained in the headlines due to a number of sexual allegations and legal entanglements. Travolta rarely grants interviews to address these matters, but in an interview with The Daily Beast published on Tuesday, the Grease star finally addressed his homosexuality allegations and discussed one of his pending lawsuits.
“I don’t care that much about it. Other people may attack it back more than I do, but I let all the media stuff go a long time ago because I can’t control it. I think that’s why it persists, to some degree,” said Travolta, regarding the rumors that he is gay.
Travolta explained that while these allegations don’t upset him, he was bothered by how the media didn’t give him time to grieve his son’s tragic death in 2009. Reports claimed that his son Jett was found by his alleged gay lover, so he was bombarded with speculation throughout his mourning period.
“I found it most offensive with the loss of my son. I felt like that was the lowest I’d ever felt. Sex stuff is always going to be interesting to somebody, but you stay away from family. You really should. With that, I always felt like the media—not all of the media, but parts of it—went too low there.”
Travolta has a pending lawsuit against him by his former employee, Douglas Gotterba, who is suing for the right to write a book about their alleged romantic relationship.
“This is every celebrity’s Achilles heel. It’s just about people wanting money. That’s all. It happens on many levels.”
The Pulp Fiction actor was also sued in 2012 by a cruise ship employee who claimed Travolta stripped off his robe and pushed him. While the suit was later dropped, many press outlets credit it to support claims that Travolta is a closeted homosexual.
