The album, originally scheduled for 2013, is the troubled singer's sixth.
Better late than never. Singer Chris Brown, 25, has finally released his latest album, X, on September 16. According to Hollywood Life, the album, Brown’s sixth, was originally slated to come out in 2013, but was pushed back due to the singer’s legal woes, which include rehab and a stint in prison. The album contains 17 songs, including collaborations with R. Kelly, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, and Brandy.
Brown continues to be most notorious for his 2009 conviction for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna and has been somewhat leery of the press due to their frequent questions related to the incident. For this album, however, he sat down with Billboard for a surprisingly open interview in August. He discussed his 108 days in prison earlier this year for violating his parole, saying, “My maturity level has risen as far as my realizing what’s important. Realizing that I’m human like everyone else. At the end of the day, it’s just a humbling experience. You’re more appreciative of everything else that’s on the outside.”
When asked if he ever expects his interviews to not include a mention of Rihanna, Brown replied, “When we’re not relevant anymore, that might be the case. As long as you’re doing something good, people will always bring up old stuff or negative stuff because they don’t want you to surpass a certain level or elevate.”
Despite his history, Brown maintains a strong fan base. Billboard reports his single “Loyal” hit #9 on the Hot 100 list.
