'SNL' alum to return to the late-night sketch comedy show as host.

Bill Hader’s comedic career took off when he joined Saturday Night Live in 2005, and now the Emmy-nominated actor will return to the long-running sketch and variety show as a host. The Mindy Project star and fan-favorite SNL alumnusis reportedly now scheduled to host on Oct. 11.

Impressed with his performance in a Los Angeles comedy troupe, Will and Grace actress Megan Mullally introduced Hader to show runner Lorne Michaels in 2005. He was soon added to the SNL cast, and remained on the show for eight years. Hader earned two Emmy nominations before leaving Saturday Night Live in 2013 to pursue other projects. While he has earned a starring role on The Mindy Project, Hader has primarily been finding success lending his energetic voice for animated films. He lent his voice to Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, and it will also appear in Pixar’s Inside Out, due out next summer, and The Good Dinosaur, which is scheduled for a Nov. 2015 release.

While Hader’s celebrity impressions instantly made him a beloved addition to the SNL cast, his most memorable contribution to the show during his eight years was his portrayal of Stefon, a flamboyant New Yorker who appeared in numerous Weekend Update segments alongside Seth Meyers. Hader reprised the popular character on Meyers’ Late Night talk show this weekand the enthusiastic audience response suggests he will likely portray Stefon again during his appearance as host.

Hader will be joined by musical guest Hozier, the Irish “Take Me To Church” singer who currently tops the Alternative Radio charts. Hozier’s self-titled debut album will be released in October.
