Robin Thicke admits drug use, that he didn’t pen ‘Blurred Lines’

The blue-eyed soul singer reveals the real genius behind "Blurred Lines" and the reason for his separation from Paula Patton.

In a confidential deposition of Robin Thicke obtained by the Hollywood Reporter, the “Blurred Lines” singer admits that Pharrell Williams is responsible for writing the hit track — despite Thicke’s previous claims to the contrary.

He also admitted to abusing alcohol and the prescription drug Vicodin.

Thicke is involved in a lawsuit with soul legend Marvin Gaye’s children, who believe “Blurred Lines” closely resembles their father’s song “Got to Give it Up” — though Thicke is the plaintiff in the case.

The deposition was taken on April 23, 2014 in Los Angeles.

In the official record, a candid Thicke drops a few bombshells.

“I tried to take credit for (“Blurred Lines”) later because (Williams) wrote the whole thing pretty much by himself and I was envious of that,” said Thicke, on the record.

The singer went on to note that he took pride in his first six albums, which he wrote and produced — none of which proved as successful as 2013’s hit song.

“The reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song.”

Thicke also came clean on his drug use, telling lawyers that he spent most of last year high on Vicodin and alcohol. “With all due respect, I was high and drunk every time I did an interview last year,” noted Thicke.

The soul singer was also brutally honest about his failed marriage. When pressed by lawyers to tell the truth during the deposition he responded, “I told my wife the truth. That’s why she left me.”

Lawyers for Thicke responded to the release of the deposition on Tuesday.

“Robin’s moment of personal vulnerability is being exploited in the hope of diverting attention from the obvious weakness of their legal claim,” said Howard King, attorney at King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner, who represents Thicke.
