Entertainment icon tells 'Extra' that it is time for a female to run the country.
Barbra Streisand’s recent Extra interview with AJ Calloway was intended to act as promotion for her newest duets album “Partners,” but the icon used several minutes of her time on-air to talk about her desire for a female president. Known for being a inspirational and influential figure herself, Streisand voiced her appreciation for female politicians like Hillary Clinton and her hope that a woman will soon lead the country.
“Finally ready, finally! I mean think of all the countries that have women leaders, you know, like it’s no big deal… America’s quite a young country. It’s taken us a long, long time to come to the thought that a woman could be President of the United States. I think it’s time for a woman to lead, in a nurturing way,” said Streisand.
The 72-year-old entertainment mogul sang her approval for Clinton’s potential run for the presidency in the interview, stating that “She’s very, very smart and she’s experienced. She’ll have a person behind her that would be a great advisor.”
Streisand later went on to actually discuss “Partners,” which features duets with Lionel Richie, Michael Bublé, Baby Face, John Legend, John Mayer and Elvis Presley. Her son Jason Gould is also on the album.
“He makes me so proud. When I heard him sing ‘How Deep Is the Ocean’ like that, he recorded it, and I just fell off my chair. The beauty of his voice, his emotional life, his soul comes through in his music, so it’s fantastic,” praised Streisand.
“Partners” is available in stores today.
