Floyd Mayweather is now 47-0 after a dominant victory over Marcos Maidana.
Floyd Mayweather is still undefeated after defeating Marcos Maidana for the second time on Saturday night. Mayweather won the fight by unanimous decision in front of a live audience in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He now has a 47-0 record for his career.
In their first meeting back in May of this year, Maidana pushed Mayweather to his limits before losing a majority decision. As expected, Mayweather came out in the rematch more than prepared. Mayweather dominated the fight throughout with the exception of an early flurry by Maidana in the fourth round. Other than that, Mayweather showcased his defensive prowess and quickness, dodging Maidana’s punches and striking back with counter punches f his own. Maidana was only able to land 22% of his punches, while Mayweather landed 51% of his punches on Maidana.
The most controversial moment of the fight came in the eighth round when Mayweather accused Maidana of biting him. Instant replays could not confirm whether or not Maidana did bite Mayweather, but when asked after the fight about the incident, Maidana denied biting the champ.
Mayweather has two fights left on his current contract with Showtime/CBS. At this point, it is unknown who he will fight next, but the fight that boxing enthusiasts and fans have been clamoring to see is a match between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. The camps for both men have struggled to come to an agreement before about the proper terms and conditions of a potential mega-fight, but with Mayweather being a proponent of “giving the fans what they want,” maybe a fight will present itself before the two greats decide to hang their gloves up for good.
