Netflix is expanding to more European countries in an effort to expand business.
If you’re in the United States then you’re probably very familiar with Netflix, a company that not only streams videos and shows but also rents DVD’s at an extremely cheap price. The company has quickly become a huge force in the entertainment industry and now it is spreading its wings and heading overseas.
Prior to this month, Netflix already had expanded to eight countries in Europe and now they are available in six more countries including France and Germany. Internationally, Netflix has over 13 million users and is growing rapidly. In the UK alone, it is estimated that Netflix is used in 10% of households and that number is expected to increase.
During a recent meeting, Forbes reported that Netflix plans to shoot a TV series in French to further expand and create a show where consumers need to subscribe to Netflix in order to watch.
“In a series of meetings with French government officials, executives said they planned to inject tens of millions of euros into France by marketing the Netflix service, striking deals for older French movies and TV shows and eventually shooting an original, French-language TV series set in the country, according to people who attended the meetings,” Forbes reported.
Soon, Netflix may be making deals with film studios to directly distribute movies across the globe. This will be both a good and bad thing for the film industry.
What do you think of Netflix becoming a global power player? Is it a good thing overall for the entertainment industry or will it take away from smaller, independent shows and movies?
