Apple announces trade-in prices ahead of iPhone 6 pre-orders

All major carriers are offering consumers a variety of discounts and options.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus available for pre-order tomorrow. If you start a brand new contract, the new device will cost $199 for a 16GB iPhone 6. The price will rise in $100 increments for 64 or 128GB of storage. The larger iPhone 6 Plus starts at $299 for a 16GB model, with pricing following a similar profile for the larger capacity versions. However, each major carrier has its own unique offerings for trade-ins on recent Apple products.

AT&T is offering a variety of ways to step into the new iPhones. The carrier offers a minimum of $300 for last year’s iPhone 5S, while the 5c, 5, 4s and 4 will net $200 at trade-in, starting this Friday when pre-orders go live. Additional Apple promotions are also available to new users.

If you’d rather sign up with Verizon, the carrier will offer a gift card worth $300 for your iPhone 5S, with that card value dropping to $200 for the 5c, 5, 4s and 4, regardless of original carrier. The gift card is available for new two-year plans with either the iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. Verizon’s promotion runs until November 17.

T-Mobile is matching any trade-in value offered by another carrier, but will add a further $50 credit to the bill. However, it doesn’t start until September 17th and is available for a “limited time”. Naturally, you’ll need to buy a new device and plan.

Sprint is also willing to match trade-in deals. The carrier is offering up to $300 in trade-in value for on a wide variety of handsets, not just iPhones. Sprint will also let you trade in up to three devices per line at once.

Of course, if you’re moving from Android or Windows Phone over to Apple, each carrier has its own trade-in profile not tied to the launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Do some research before you head in-store or to one of the carriers’ websites, as you could easily add another $100 to the price of your trade-in elsewhere.
