Want to know what it might be like to dive into the heart of an active volcano? Thanks to a team of intrepid adventurers and their Go Pro camera, you now have a chance to learn.

According to an article posted this week on Geek.com, a recent expedition to the Marum Volcano in the South Pacific was captured in an exhilarating Go Pro video for all to enjoy. The expedition was led by an explorer named Sam Cossman and a photographer named Geoff Mackley, who traveled to the island of Vanuatu to stand on the brink of an active volcano. Mackley in particular has made a name for himself by photographing extreme and dangerous spots.

The video itself is only 2 minutes and 42 seconds in length, but it captures the full scope of the Marum Volcano Expedition, from a helicopter ride over a sprawling jungle to a daring trip down a sharp cliff face to reach the brink of the volcano. Most remarkably though, the video captures the churning and frothing lava of the volcano itself.

In order to withstand the extreme heat of the molten rock, explorers had to wear protective full-body suits. Still, the Go Pro video shows the explorers getting up close and personal with the lava and the piping hot rocks of the volcano in a way that has only previously been captured by special effects laden cinema.
