Drew Carey offering 10K for teens responsible for horrific ALS challenge prank

In an interview with Cleveland's local Fox affiliate, the boy's mother said that she was "horrified".

Drew Carey took to his Twitter account to let police in his home state know that he wants to help them find who was responsible for the ALS ice bucket prank involving an autistic teenager.

“If the Bay Village PD wants to start a reward fund to find who did this,” Carey wrote. “Contact me. I’ll donate 10K.”

Cleveland.com reports that Carey made his Twitter pledge with a caveat. If the police are able to find the pranksters without any donations, the comedian said that he’ll donate the money to Autism Speaks.

According to the New York Daily News, the prank allegedly involved a group of bullies who talked the teenager into participating in the ALS ice bucket challenge that has gone viral over the past months. But, instead of dumping ice water on the autistic teen, the pranksters dumped urine, feces and cigarettes butts onto the young man. Afterwards, the teens posted the video to Instagram.

Bay High School, along with the Bay Village Police Department are both investigating the incident. The New York Post also reports that a charges against the still unknown pranksters could be filed soon.

In an interview with Cleveland’s local Fox affiliate, the boy’s mother said that she was “horrified” and continues to seek justice for her son.

“I want these kids held accountable for what they did to him, and they targeted somebody who just didn’t really understand what was going on,” the boy’s mother Diane, said to Fox 8 Cleveland.

Because of the nature of the incident, only first names of the family are being used.

The ALS ice bucket challenge is meant to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig’s disease.  With Carey using his celebrity status, the incident is now raising awareness for bullying and autism.
