Wildfire in California threatening residents and Yosemite National Park

Firefighters are working tirelessly to prevent a wildfire from affecting Yosemite National Park in California.

California firefighters are currently trying to contain a large wildfire near the Yosemite National Park in Central California. While the fire has not yet affected nearby residents, locals are being warned to evacuate their homes just in case the fire continues to spread.

According to the Seattle PI, the fire began Friday afternoon, and has burned about 300 acres of land so far. The fire is a short distance from the park, but has yet to have any direct impact on it. Firefighters are working to make sure that the fire not only stays away from the park, but from the homes of residents in the area as well. Yesterday, an evacuation order was issued to 300 homes in the immediate area of the park. Another 400 homeowners were advised to evacuate their homes as well.

It was reported by the Seattle PI that the fire had been contained by about 25%, but a conflicting report by CNN from early this morning said that the fire wasn’t being contained at all. As of right now, it is unclear just how much of the fire has and is being contained. There is also no clear indication as to what caused the fire.

The Los Angeles Times reported last night that a firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling the fire.  That firefighter is believed to be the only person to suffer injuries thus far.

Wildfires are nothing new for this area of the country. About a month ago, a fire broke out in Norther California and grew to be about 130 square miles before being contained and extinguished. Officials and citizens of Central California hope that this latest fire doesn’t have nearly the impact that the one from a few weeks ago had.
