The young performer followed her success on 'The X Factor' by joining the next-generation Pussycat Dolls group, G.R.L.
Reality television contestant Simone Battle has been found dead in her Los Angeles home, reports TMZ. She was 25.
Battle was discovered by her boyfriend on Friday, Sept. 5, at 8:30 a.m. PST, hanging by a rod in the closet of her home in an apparent suicide. Her home is the guest house of a larger property.
While found in such a position, the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office has yet to perform an autopsy, so no official cause of death has been given. An autopsy is schedule for Sunday.
The young performer rose to fame in 2011 on the US version of The X Factor, on which she was a top 17 finalist.
She was later recruited to perform in the all-girl group G.R.L., an updated version of the pop group Pussycat Dolls.
Her father, Anthony Battle, has since told TMZ that he’s “confused” by his daughter’s apparent suicide as she “was excited about where her career was heading.”
G.R.L. had just finished recording a single with rapping sensation Pitbull.
The singer’s father also noted that he was unaware of any emotional condition such as depression, but told TMZ that “it’s possible she may have had an invisible disability.”
“Words cannot express the depth of our loss. Simone’s incredible talent was only surpassed by the size of her heart,” tweeted G.R.L., from their official Twitter page. “We will carry her memory with us in everything we do.”
Over her short career, Battle released four singles, one music video and 10 YouTube videos.
Simon Cowell, creator of The X Factor, has remarked in the past that Battle was one of his favorite contestants that he had mentored.
Battle also acted, appearing in the short film Meanamorphosis and the feature film We the Party, in which she played a lead role. Before her X Factor fame, she played a bit part in Everybody Hates Chris and Zoey 101 in 2006.
“I am so sad to hear about the news Simone Battle has passed away,” tweeted Cowell on Saturday. “She was such a fun nice person. It’s such a loss. Rest in peace, Simone.”
