The Modern Family star reportedly earned more than any other female or male on television due to endorsements and licensing.
Maybe she should climb back on her pedestal. Little more than a week after television actress Sofia Vergara stirred controversy with a Emmys gag many considered sexist, she is back in the news for a more empowering reason. Vergara, one of the stars of ABC’s Modern Family, has topped Forbes annual highest paid television actress list for the third year in a row.
Forbes bases the list on earnings between June 2013 and June 2014, combining salary and endorsement profits. They do not adjust for fees such as management payments. The magazine comments that while the top 10 highest-paid actors on television made a combined $214 million vs the women’s $140 million, Vergara, 42, actually earned more than the highest paid male, Ashton Kutcher. Vergara netted an astounding $37 million, $24 million more than the second actress on the list, Mariska Hargitay.
According to Forbes, while Vergara’s Modern Family salary helps (apparently $325k per episode, the same as her fellow cast members), her real profits come from her variety of other ventures. Vergara is a known face on many endorsements, including AT&T, Covergirl, Head and Shoulders, and Diet Pepsi. She has had a clothing line with Kmart for 12 years. Perhaps most importantly, and least known to your average television viewer, is that Vergara is cofounder of Latin World Entertainment, a media powerhouse that made an estimated $27 million in 2011.
Other actresses on the list included Kaley Cuoco, Kerry Washington, Ellen Pompeo, and Claire Danes.
