TMZ reports the clinic is under review for last week's procedure that has left the comedian hospitalized and on life support.
There’s still nothing funny about the situation. The New York Department of Health is now involved in Joan Rivers’ health crisis. Last Thursday the legendary comedian, 81, was rushed to Mt. Sinai hospital after falling into respiratory and cardiac arrest while undergoing an outpatient procedure for her vocal cords. TMZ has learned that the Department of Health is now “reviewing” the case.
According to TMZ’s sources, at this point the department is looking at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic as a whole instead of focusing solely on the doctor who performed the procedure. No official investigation has been launched, and even the review could take weeks to months to complete. Rumors have appeared that Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, may be considering suing the clinic but no formal announcement has been made.
Melissa has been making regular statements about her mother’s health but has understandably not addressed any legal issues with the clinic where the incident occurred. On Tuesday she spoke to ABC News, revealing her mother remained on life support and acknowledging that, “we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we’ve received…I want to thank everyone for keeping up in their prayers.” On Wednesday she released a brief statement, published on TMZ, telling fans that, “my mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable.”
Yorkville Endoscopy has yet to comment on the situation.
