Unconscious pilot’s unfortunate crash into Atlantic Ocean

A small plane headed for Manassas, Virginia crashed in the Atlantic Ocean after the pilot fell unconscious.

According to Daily Mail Online, the pilot of a single-engine Cirrus SR20 plane lost consciousness during a flight on Saturday, causing him to miss his stop in Manassas, Virginia and crash into the Atlantic Ocean around 3:30 P.M. As of right now, the pilot and the plane have yet to be located by the Coast Guard and other search crews.

Shortly before 3 P.M. on Saturday, the Coast Guard was alerted that a plane was flying into restricted airspace in Washington, D.C. Upon learning that the pilot of the plane had not been responding to radio communication since 1 P.M., two F-16 Fighter Jets were directed to investigate the plane, and that is when it was confirmed that the pilot was unconscious. The Fighter Jets stayed with the plane until it ran out of fuel and eventually crashed about 50 miles outside of an island named Chincoteague, which is along the Virginia Coast.

The identity of the pilot is unknown, but the plane was registered to Ronald Hutchinson of Brookfield, Wisconsin. The plane took off from Waukesha, Wisconsin and was supposed to land in Manassas. Daily Mail Online contacted the family of Ronald Hutchinson by phone on Saturday night, but the family did not want to make any comments regarding the situation at the time.

According to NBC Washington, the search for the plane was suspended on Sunday morning after crews found a wheel and engine from the plane. Coast Guard Petty Officer Nate Littlejohn, who spoke on the situation on Sunday, said that the chances of finding anything else from the plane were slim.
