Rapper and his entourage enter not guilty pleas after an AK-47 was found in their tour bus.
Police arrested rapper Young Jeezy and five members of his entourage on Aug. 24 after an AK-47 was found aboard their tour bus after a concert in Mountain View, California. All six men entered not guilty pleas in the Superior Court in Newport Beach on Tuesday, but remain in jail on $1 million dollar bail.
After 38-year-old Eric Johnson was shot to death backstage at the Wiz Khalifa concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre last week, a search warrant was issued for Jeezy’s tour bus and police discovered the dangerous weapon. Peter Arthur Maynard and Kena Jermaine Marshall, two members of the rapper’s entourage, received additional felony counts due to being felons in possession of a separate firearm and being felons in possession of ammunition. All Hip Hop reports that the men have not paid their $1 million bail, so all six remain in jail.
Investiators have not made any connection between the AK-47 and the backstage shooting, and police have stated that they are not suspects in the shooting, likely because witnesses claim the shooter used a black handgun with a large clip. Police are saying that the rapper and his entourage are being “cooperative” with the murder investigation.
Despite Jeezy being in jail, his Twitter account is still promoting his upcoming album, Seen It All: The Autobiography, which comes out on Sept. 2. The rapper won’t have long to celebrate the album’s release, as he and his entourage are due in court on Sept. 5 for their pretrial hearing.
